Why We Started a Women’s Initiative

InspireHer: Plancorp Women’s Initiative

I have good news and bad news. Which do you want first?

Good News: It is estimated in less than 15 years, women will control over two-thirds of the nation’s wealth!

Bad News: Less than half of women say they are confident talking about money and investments (even with a professional).

This lack of confidence worries me as a financial professional and as a woman – especially given that 9 out of 10 women become solely responsible for financial decisions at some point in their lives. Thankfully, however, 92% of women say they want to learn more about financial planning.  And that’s exactly why we started the Plancorp Women’s Initiative.

We decided to take a focused approach to deepening our relationships with our female clients and make meaningful connections with other great women in the community. What better way to accomplish these goals than women educating women.

Currently, the Women’s Initiative sends out monthly educational content written from a woman’s perspective.  We leave out the financial jargon and strive to write content relevant to your day-to-day lives.  Check out the great topics we have already covered on our blog!  Our topics are based on direct feedback from our clients, sister, neighbors and friends so please feel free to share your thoughts on future topics to address.

While we hope our articles will help educate and empower women, we also felt a need to connect on a more personal level through hosting two events per year. We have found there is something very powerful – indescribable, really – that occurs when you bring together a group of amazing women.  If you don’t know what I mean, just come to an event and witness for yourself! Watch for updates on our upcoming events.

Why do women regularly report they feel less confident in their understanding of finance? We aren’t sure, but we want it to change! We feel it is important to educate women in a non-intimidating environment and empower them to feel more confident talking about finance.  We hope you’ll join our effort to help women find their financial voice.

Sincerely,

Sara Gelsheimer, CFP®, AIF®
