What Does a Fiduciary Do?

  • A fiduciary offers many of the same services a financial advisor does
  • A fiduciary financial advisor is someone entrusted with the management of money or property.
    • At times, a fiduciary can also step in as a Power of Attorney (POA)
  • A financial advisor can be a fiduciary, but not all advisors are fiduciaries
    • A fiduciary has a legal responsibility to make financial decisions in a clients best interest, even if it may not be what is most financially valuable for the firm.
    • They are charged with developing financial plans and investment strategies that align with a client’s personal goals.
      • A financial advisor that is not a registered or certified fiduciary is not required to offer you services that would be in your best interest (i.e., might offer services that benefit the firm more)
      • Non-fiduciary financial advisors or wealth managers can also earn income from other sources, like commissions on product sales, and are held to weaker industry standards.
    • A fiduciary is a good choice when planning for retirement, investing in life-insurance to provide for your family, or to prepare for times of disability.

Fiduciary Requirements

For an advisor to become a fiduciary, they must be registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and have had training and accreditation through the NACFF.

Another CFF accreditation organization that denotes a certified fiduciary is the Centre for Fiduciary Excellence (CEFEX).
CEFEX-certified financial advisors and wealth managers are the best fiduciaries to look out for.

Advisors registered with CEFEX firms are required to uphold fiduciary practices that exceed the letter of the law and must agree to annual audits to confirm their approach. The audits are more rigorous and more frequent than SEC check-ins

Investment Management

We’re here to help you keep your investments healthy by evaluating your holdings and providing valuable feedback based on an evidence-based investment philosophy.

Together, we can establish a clear Investment Policy Statement (IPS) to guide your investments and set an asset allocation to help you contribute to your financial goals.

As an independent advisor, you can trust that our investment guidance is free of any conflicts of interests, following your personal financial plan and in your best interests.

Retirement Planning

Life after retirement looks different for everyone. Whether your vision is to downsize and travel the world, buy your dream home, spend more time with your family or even start a new career, it's important to know that end goal up front so you can work toward it.

We'll work with you to define what is most important to you, so we can create the right roadmap to help you get there. Then, we'll proactively monitor that plan as needed to make sure you end up where you want.
